Have you ever gotten the impression that a cruising lifestyle is all about fiberglass, high-tech electronics, and cocktails in the cockpit? If your passion to sail is connected to a desire to live by the earth’s rhythms, a need to lower your carbon footprint, and a thrill for a watery adventure, then Amicus II and the Gordon family can help you get there.
Amicus II is our 40' custom steel cutter. Her hull, rigging, and equipment ensure her seaworthiness. She is no floating apartment, but she is a joy to sail and cruise aboard. Living on Amicus II is an immersion into the physical world: sails are raised and lowered by hand; her seakindly motion lets you experience the winds and the waves with a feeling of security; her hard dodger makes it possible to sail in relative comfort in wet or chilly conditions. Inside the cabin, it’s comfortable and cozy with an emphasis on simplicity and utility. You will not find a microwave or a television but you will find a practical and functional galley, comfortable berths, a composting head (toilet), a diesel heater for those chilly Lake Superior days, and basic electronics such as GPS, Radar and VHF radio. With two burners, a small oven, and four square feet of counter space, you will learn to prepare easy, inexpensive, nutritious meals that sustain your lifestyle without resorting to restaurants for “real” food.
Safety, simplicity, self-sufficiency and seaworthiness are what we have to offer. They may not be all cruiser’s priorities but they have always been ours. Come join us to learn to cruise or to simply be a part of this satisfying adventure.
