MULTI-DAY TRIPS

Thank you for your interest in our multi-day trips.  We want you to have the fullest, most enriching experience possible.  Simplicity, seaworthiness, safety, and sustainability are our priorities and we try to live by them.  If you have questions, do not hesitate to call or email us.  We love to talk about sailing, so don't hesitate!

Below are three different approaches for you to consider.

1. Private Charters
With this approach you are essentially renting the boat and the captain.  You will each have a bunk (single or double) and a small space to stow your belongings.  You will share in all the liveaboard tasks, such as cooking, dishes, sailing, and navigation (as you feel able).  You may either use our menu or bring your own food.  You will have input regarding the trip route, how much time you want to spend ashore, at anchor and out sailing (though weather and schedules may limit the options).  This approach maximizes the experience for a group that wants to spend time together and having a lot of fun. Trips usually begin at 9:00am on the first day and end around 4:00 on the last day. Groups can usually sleep on the boat the night before their trip starts for no additional charge.

COST: $450.00 to $850.00 per day depending on trip location, dates, group size and meals.

2. Individual Participants
We usually schedule several of these trips per season to Isle Royale and the Apostle Islands that are open to individual sign up.  You will share all the liveaboard tasks, such as cooking, dishes, sailing and navigation (as you are able.)   The itinerary is established at the beginning of the trip, though weather and schedules will sometimes limit the options.  This approach allows individuals and couples to come together in a shared group experience that can be fun and enriching for all involved. Onboard for most of these trips will be Mark as captain, Katya as first mate and our daughters Cedar (9) and Lamar (6) and 3-4 guests.

COST:  Varies with the trip length and destination.  2011 Isle Royale Fall Color Tour September 3rd to 11th - $750-950/person depending on berth selection.  (See Home Page link "Isle Royale Fall Color Tour" for details).

3.  Family Sailing Adventures
This is a special opportunity for your family to join our family on Amicus II.  We occasionally offer these trips to those who are eager to experience family life aboard or who see the interpersonal aspect of voyaging as one of the most rewarding.

Who are we?  We are Mark, Katya, and our two daughters Cedar (8) and Lamar (6).  As a family, we have sailed thousands of miles on the Great Lakes and lived aboard for 14 months while we sailed to the Bahamas.  We have a passion for bringing the world of sailing and voyaging to those who might not have the resources to do it on their own.

You will partake in all aspects of the liveaboard life, such as cooking, cleaning, sailing, and navigation.  We will provide the meal menu; you bring the snacks or special-needs foods.  You will also have time to sit back and enjoy the ride, or relax on shore.

For families, this is a chance to immerse yourselves in a hands-on, authentic voyaging experience at an affordable cost.  We welcome families of all backgrounds and abilities and are enriched by the mutual benefits of a diverse crew.  Our children never tire of meeting new and interesting people.

For families of 4 or less, we want ot provide the resources, the companionship, and the know-how that you may need in order to have a fun family experience.  Our kids know (usually) how to be safe on board, how to sleep in close quarters, how to deal with seasickness, how to expend their energy on long passages, how to eat what is available, how to get out of the way when both parents are occupied, how to entertain themselves with no TV and few toys, how to dip in frigid waters or bury themselves on a beach, and how to share the adventure with others.  As parents, we know (usually) how to instill a love of sailing, how to create space when we need it, how to read stories and sing songs when it's bouncy, how to work together through the daily challenges of limited space.  We believe sailing together is one of the most deeply fun and fulfilling things a family can do together, and we are eager to lessen your learning curve by doing it with us.  If trip length allows, your kids can make trip logs, map routes, read (or be read to) local and historical children's stories, and discover edible plants.  They can paint, color, draw, craft, and cook.  As you already know, there is no limit to the learning that can happen when we see each moment as teachable and when we intentionally capitalize on experiences and interest.

The route of a family trip will vary greatly depending on weather, comfort level, and ages of children.  For young children (and their parents) it does not take much to experience high adventure on the water!

COST:  Port Wing Overnight: $650.00/family
