Isle Royale National Park

“To step into Isle Royale is to leave behind one’s own self and one’s world and to begin a new exploration into the nature of life”.

                                   -Napier Shelton, Superior Wilderness 1997

In the northwestern portion of Lake Superior is a unique and remote island archipelago. Isle Royale National park preserves 132,018 acres of land that was federally designated as wilderness on October 20, 1976. The park consists of one large island surrounded by over 450 smaller islands; it encompasses a total area of 850 square miles including submerged land, which extends 4 1/2 miles out into the largest fresh water lake in the world. Isle Royale's unique ecosystem led to it being designated an International Biosphere Reserve in 1980.

We specialize in trips to Isle Royale, one of the most pristine and culturally rich archipelagos on Lake Superior. Situated 20 miles offshore from the Grand Portage, MN, Isle Royale is a world class cruising ground full of mystique and adventure and should be on every sailors "Bucket List". With it's intricate hiking trail system, inland waterways and bountiful remote anchorages, it is a true wilderness cruising experience.

Our trips generally leave from Grand Marais, MN, and make the 46 mile crossing to Washington Harbor on the west end of the island. We recommend a minimum of six days for this trip with 7-10 days being the ideal to really immerse yourself in all Isle Royale has to offer.

Cost: Private Charter $450-$850/day depending on dates and options.

Isle Royale Tour June 17th - 26th, 2012

In our opinion, June is one of the best month to cruise Isle Royale because of consistent winds.  Ironically, few people are visiting the park at this time so we usually have anchorages and hiking trails to ourselves.  Two kayaks aboard maximize exploring.

We will cross over to the Island from Grand Marais, MN to Washington Harbor on the western end of the Island. From there, depending on weather, winds and crew interest we will visit anchorages along the north side of the island, with the hope of continuing on around, circumnavigating the entire island.

Cost:  $1,500 - $2,100 depending on berth selection. Includes all meals and park fees.  Maximum four guests.
